Pathway to Learning Project

The Pathways to Learning Project is for rehabilitation therapy and is used to teach children with disabilities how to ride a bike.

For most children, learning to ride a bike is a rite of passage. For children with disabilities and/or developmental delays, learning to ride a bike is a very challenging endeavor. Less than 20% of children with autism and 10% of children with Down Syndrome learn to ride a bike.

Ways to support this project:

Donations – Donations will be used to fund themed outbuildings such as gas station, grocery store and school, which will be placed along the bike pathways. Also, in an effort to create an inviting and realistic setting, additional structural enhancements such as park benches, child-size street signs, trees and plants are planned. Donations will be used to purchase these items along with various bicycles and other wheeled apparatuses, including specially designed bicycles and trikes.

Sponsorships - Sponsorships in the form of “naming rights” are available to purchase structures and have them designed in a way that reflects a brand. Structures can be painted and include the logo in a manner that mirrors a brand. Below are the items for sponsorship donations. Donations in any amount are appreciated.

  • Trikes - $70
  • Bikes - $135
  • Park Bench - $500
  • Custom Street Signs - $350
  • Gas N Go Structure - $4,600
  • School House Structure - $4,400
  • Police Station Structure - $4,440
  • Post Office Structure - $4,440

We have received $36,000 for this project from WHAS Crusade for Children, the Jacob Koch Trust, Bachman Chevrolet, the Herman Nettelroth Fund, and donations from individuals. Due to these donations, we now have a fence, a winding concrete bike path and one structure. To complete this project we still need signs, bikes, additional structures and landscaping.

Most of our fondest childhood memories include riding bikes with our friends. The memory of riding your bike up to a new friend’s house was the ultimate ice breaker. Please help use create these memories for our children too.

Join us in creating an aesthetic and realistic experience for children with disabilities.
